Sunday, mid-afternoon
It's a beautiful afternoon - mild and bright - and so I have taken the opportunity to drive out to a few farms to restock supplies and discuss contracts and so on. Lady enjoys going out for a long ride, even pulling the buggy. I take her out every day to stretch her legs, of course, but often I only have time to give her a short ride. She's a working horse, and she likes being busy. She's like me in that respect, I think, and I smile.
There hasn't been much of note happening since the town party, which was a lovely event overall. It was a lot of fun to chat with Zann and Cain. Cain is such a good hearted man, and Zann is one of the liveliest but also sweetest people I think I've ever met. An hour in their company managed to push thoughts of Laurence to the back of my mind.
Since then, though, I have found myself wondering about him. I'm pleased and proud that he's decided to go ahead with building his church, but I feel sad that he clearly can't stand to be in my company, and I'm worried that means he's deeply hurt. But there's nothing I can do... It's all such a mess.
I get home and unload the buggy, and then I gave Lady a good rub down and check her hooves. She'll be due a routine check by Cain in a week or so, I think. Colder weather is drawing in, and so I'll start using a liniment on her legs soon, and putting on a horse blanket at night.
Once everything is squared away, I decide to sit on the porch. Glass happened to mention recently that she could do with a new winter coat, and so I have decided to make her one in a nice deep green fabric. I'll be happy to give it to her as a gift, as I like to have craft projects to work on, but if she wants to pay for the fabric, I'll let her. There's no point in a gift if it makes people uncomfortable.
It's quite soothing, sitting out here in the afternoon sun. I suppose there won't be too many afternoons of sitting out left in the year, so I should enjoy them when I can.
