{Early Evening- Tuesday, 29th June ~ Day 394}
{Crossroads DanceHall}

Tonight I'm gonna have myself a real good time
I feel alive
And the world turning inside out, yeah
And floating around in ecstasy, so
Don't stop me now
Don't stop me
'Cuz I'm having a good time, having a good time

It is finally time to open the doors.
The lights are on- thanks to a couple folks from the fair who came out to help me with 'em. And the musics' done warming up now- sounds of instruments tuning and and the player's psyching each other up have given over to songs playing and feet stomping along.
A few brave souls have opened the dancing and there are mostly smiles all around.

So far so good.

A lot of the younger set know me by now from hiring them for the clean-up, and I put up some signs around town, so hopefully we'll have a good turn out.
And now that the greater part of the haying is done, people are in a good mood. People like to dance and come out and see each other when they're happy. Even in a strange town like this that holds true.

Smooth my skirt as I circle the floor towards the drink stand. I'll probably take a few turns of my own tonight, but mostly my job is to meet people who don't know me yet and get them to like me enough to come back. If the night continues like this, I do think it'll turn out fine.

The band starts another song, and I find my smile is genuine.

(The DanceHall is open to all! Come on in and have fun!)

This was a great idea. The town may be growing and store are all well and good, but having something for the younger people to do?

It may just make my friday and saturday nights a little quieter. Oh there will still be brawls at the Whitechapel and The Tavern... but stupid kids jumping from haylofts and having cows tipped on to them? Yeah, this may cut down on those idiot calls.

Told Lannie I was going to drop in here, in hopes she'll decide to come by and join me. Mentioned the leather pants would be a good thing to wear... heh.

Wander in, and right now, the only person I truly know well enough to talk to is Jarmyn, and he looks like he's set his sights on a pretty blonde in a red dress. I sigh and roll my eyes, and head in the opposite direction. Maybe Molly is here somewhere. Or Jamie, or Iago or anyone else for that matter.

Haven't been down the Tavern in a while, no surprise, and not bloody well after setting foot in the Whitechapel. So this, it's a chance to slip in and take a look, have a chance to stand back and watch folk, and I've been rather missing that of late.

Pick myself up a drink and stroll on away from the table, glancing 'round. Spot someone familiar crossing the room and thread my way over.

"Evening," I say mild. "How've you been?"

Am just sitting down and stretching my legs out when I see Glass making her way across the room.

"Been well enough." I reply, rising again and pulling out a chair for her. "You? Coming towards the end, I imagine." I say quietly, nodding towards her belly.

"Been well enough," and take the seat he offers, smiling a little. Well enough, covers so much, but guess if you're in a state to say it there's good chance of it being true. "You? Coming towards the end, I imagine," and wrinkle my nose a bit; not particular cheered over that, I confess.

"Spoke to Iago," I say. "Could've gone better. But my hand's doing well," hold it up and curl it, and the fingers move smooth through their arc. Still can't feel the side of it aright, but think that may be getting better. "That aside... well. Nothing of particular note, aside from time slipping away." Take a sip of my drink; it's nice, something like fruit, although definitely not quite like the last punch I had.

"Spoke to Iago, could've gone better. But my hand's doing well,"

Watch the movement of her fingers, pleased that there's no hesitation or catch to it. If it hadn't been for that curse, I bet it would've healed clean and nice on it's own. "Sorry to hear that about Iago." I sigh, grabbing another chair and sitting next to her. "I had heard you might have bonded over your tongue lashing of Jarmyn." I give her a ghost of a smile for that.

"I suppose it's a good day in Excolo when there's 'nothing of note' to mention." I sigh again, and settle back into my chair.

"I have no mind for why he sent that mewling jackass over," I say, sniffing. Did some good in that I'm at least trying t'go speak to Ri, but times I've been by she's been busy. Grant I don't exactly care enough to set up on her doorstep, but...

Not got the gift of it, this minding others.

"I suppose it's a good day in Excolo when there's 'nothing of note' to mention."

"Particular end of haying," I say cheerful. "How's Wanda managing?" Been others there when I stopped by, which rather means less like to speak of certain matters, and so I wonder. "She been out again?"

"I have no mind for why he sent that mewling jackass over,"

"Because you are a force to be reconned with, and it might be amusing to watch him try to crawl his way into the floorboards." I say cheerfully, rather sorry I missed it. "And I mean that as a compliment." I inform her for good measure. "I wouldn't want to be on your bad side."

"How's Wanda managing? She been out again?"

"How's Wanda... good question." I sigh, raking a hand through my hair. "She's okay most of the time, I suppose... and she's making an effort to be more social but..." Should've got myself a drink. "She's dismantled her basement. What wasn't packed away was torn down or apart. I don't think she wanted to do it, but when I asked, she put on her "actress face" and changed the subject."

"Because you are a force to be reconned with, and it might be amusing to watch him try to crawl his way into the floorboards," and fine, well enough, but wasn't any amusement to it for me. "And I mean that as a compliment. I wouldn't want to be on your bad side."

"Think you're safe," I say, grinning a little. And we're on to matter of Wanda, then, and-- right, well, heard she'd been clearing things away out of the Dormouse but not that, which I suppose is either due t'my being busy when folk were talking or them not catching details.

Wouldn't mind if Lucien didn't think she was unhappy over it, but... "Oh for the bleeding love," I say, mild exasperated. "Know she was after tearing into herself far too damn much over caring t'hurt people, she still doing that?"

Glass tells me I am in her good graces, and I grin. "Good, if I am ever in danger of falling off the safe list, let me know as soon as possible." I am one lucky bastard to be on the good side of her shovel.

"Oh for the bleeding love," Arch an eyebrow and rock back on my chair a bit. "No, not anymore." I reply mildly, amused with my own joke.

"Know she was after tearing into herself far too damn much over caring t'hurt people, she still doing that?"

Think about it for a moment, then shake my head in the negative. "Don't think so. Maybe that urge left with the birth of Rose?" I muse, but my thoughts are still heavy. "I want to believe that she did it because she wanted to move past the last year, get a fresh start, you know?" And I do think that's a big part of it, but...

"I just hope she's not shutting things out that are a part of her, that she enjoyed."

Troubles me t'let him know if he's ever like to get me particular angry at him, and I smile a bit. "What I hear," I say dry, "it's not something lot of folk miss."

Answers "No, not anymore," to my words, and I groan and swat at him, take another sip of my drink.

"Don't think so. Maybe that urge left with the birth of Rose?" and I'd care t'see more before I'd hope for that, but... Well, if she's ignoring it, that's a good enough start. "I just hope she's not shutting things out that are a part of her, that she enjoyed."

"Hope but don't believe," I say, sighing. "She cared for that long before that thing took after her..." Sniff. "So she's lost her taste for it or she's denying herself, and if the first she wouldn't be putting on faces to you. 'Less I've the wrong of it?"

Can't help but laugh now. "No, from what I've been told, you're a dead aim." Jesus, I might fall off this damn chair I keep laughing over this.

But Wanda is no laughing matter. Not in the least.

"So she's lost her taste for it or she's denying herself, and if the first she wouldn't be putting on faces to you. 'Less I've the wrong of it?"

Shake my head. "Nope, pretty sure you've nailed it on the head. If I know Wanda..." And I am pretty sure I know quite a bit about her. "...she'll shut down to keep from getting hurt." Rake a hand through my hair.

"Always something, isn't it?"

"Nope, pretty sure you've nailed it on the head. If I know Wanda..." no if about it, "...she'll shut down to keep from getting hurt."

Mutter agreement to the matter of always one thing or another; way of the world, that. "Only if she doesn't think getting hurt--" will please another, and don't think that's untrue, but the way the laugh dies in Lucien's throat over her leaves me wondering after the words. "--is worth it," I finish. Grant that not everyone can be a match for my mam, but really...

"May be'll see after speaking to Dorian," I say after a moment. Don't see the sense of it, myself, but some loose idea's to mind... something about Wanda's bewailing what she cared to set her hand to, even when it suited another. "Don't know how matters stand, with them, but can't think of one better suited to make you feel a fool for not striking him--" Catch myself at that and grin crooked, shaking my head. "Trust you catch what I'm saying." Glance 'round and see 'Ri, and-- well. Bloody hell. Leastways I'm not like to ruin her mood, I speak t'her.

"Only if she doesn't think getting hurt --is worth it," Shrug a little. "Maybe she'll come 'round back to herself soon?" Doubt it, but one can hope.

"May be'll see after speaking to Dorian, don't know how matters stand, with them, but can't think of one better suited to make you feel a fool for not striking him--" It took me a minute to catch where she was going with this, and I bust up laughing when she stops herself short and grins.

"I get your drift." I snicker, thinking on it. "There're getting on again, last I heard, but.." Shrug again. "If you think he'd be okay with it, it's worth a try."

Follow Glass' gaze, and scowl a bit. Bad enough I don't like the man, but it looks like 'Ri is less than pleased to see him.

"Swear to God he makes her cry I'll drag him out back and hit him." I mutter under my breath.

"There're getting on again, last I heard, but.." and with the but there, I shake my head. "If you think he'd be okay with it, it's worth a try."

"Wasn't thinking making her angry," I say. "Only... well, guess she'd feel an ass carrying on over such a terrible person, dark desires, horrible selfish agonies, when five minutes after she's done the worst pain he's in is whatever snit he's sending himself into over her clothes." Shrug a little.

"Swear to God he makes her cry I'll drag him out back and hit him," he says to matter of 'Ri, and she's looking more snarling than weeping for the moment, but think one's not so far from the other, for her.

"'d you hit a pregnant woman?" I say dry. "Me, I'm needing t'talk to her. Doubt she'll be happy t'hear it." Take another sip of my drink as the music changes.

Not quite laugh at her assement of his mood after Wanda's done her worst, but the idea of them sniping at each other over clothes... that's fairly amusing.

"'d you hit a pregnant woman?" Give her a questioning look, and she continues. "Me, I'm needing t'talk to her. Doubt she'll be happy t'hear it."

"There's a big difference between having what may be an unpleasant conversation, and being an ass and causing misery with your actions and deeds." I reply just as dryly. "Care to divulge what you need to talk to her about?"

"There's a big difference between having what may be an unpleasant conversation, and being an ass and causing misery with your actions and deeds." Fine, well enough, but not sure much difference those as hear the bad news. "Care to divulge what you need to talk to her about?"

"Bitch of the moment," I say, mouth curling. "Don't think it's matter of may be unpleasant conversation, 'less 'Ri's stopped carrying on with her."

Wave my hand a bit. "Not what I meant. You know it's going to be a difficult conversation, but you're not going to revel it. Him? Wanda has the right of him. Either he's too simple to realize he causes heartache, or he does know and doesn't care." Lips twitch a bit into a smile. Wich I had been there to see that, and not hear about it second hand.

Watch Jarmyn slink away, only to approach Mab.

"There's your window." Nod to Verite who's alone now. "Let her know I'll walk her home in she wants an escort." I add. 'Ri's one of 'the girls', and I feel rather protective of them. Silly, she's a woman running her own buisness... but she'll always be one of the girls to me.

"Not what I meant. You know it's going to be a difficult conversation, but you're not going to revel it."

"No," I say in agreement, running my hand 'round the back of my neck as he smiles. "Understand, only..." I sigh and shake my head. "No real gift for it, matter of minding others. Leaves me hesitating, when I'd rather not have her after me." Shrug and glance up as he nods towards her.

"There's your window."

Turn to catch sight of what he's seeing, and Ri's taken herself off and away--can't really say along, not in this crowd. "Let her know I'll walk her home in she wants an escort," and I look at him curious a moment, then nod. Well enough I know they're both from the Carnivale; only sometimes it slips my mind, and it's near to startling to recall.

"I'll give word," I say. Well. Sooner begun, sooner done, and I finish my drink, touch his shoulder as I stand, and cross to see her (http://estdeus-innobis.livejournal.com/452344.html#t11380472).

Bloody annoyed at the trouble it is to work through people, but hardly as if sitting around is getting anything done.

"She'd take you up on matter of walking her home," I say, coming back up to him. "Managing it well enough, all told... Not sure I'm minded to stay much longer, myself." I'd rather watch folk speak than dance, all told, and the night's swinging from first to second.

See Glass make her way through the crowd and back to me.

"She'd take you up on matter of walking her home, Managing it well enough, all told... Not sure I'm minded to stay much longer, myself."

Rise from my comfortable spot and give her a nod.

"No problem. Why don't you swing by tomorrow or so? We Can grab a bite to eat." I offer. Touch her shoulder, light, then head over to where I last saw 'Ri (http://estdeus-innobis.livejournal.com/452344.html?thread=11422712#t11422712).
