Day 333
Afternoon

Momma is sleeping and Daddy is at work. It was a pretty day so I decided to sneak out. The garden, especially the snap dragons,(they get grumpy sometimes), tried to stop me, but I'm not a baby anymore so I kicked'em and told'em so. They knew I meant it when I gave'em that look Momma gives me and Daddy sometimes. I'll tell it sorry later, but a Tiger Lily did offer to come with me so I tucked it in my hair and we left.

It didn't take long to find town. I could smell the people and the food. It looks like so much fun! Lily whispering my ear, makes me giggle when we cross the bridge. OH! People from Town! They look much nicer and cleaner than Momma says, and they don't smell bad at all!

I start to skip (cos its fun to do, almost like flying) and we sing the new song Momma taught me as we skip down the street, waving to the people we pass.

"Alouette, gentille Alouette
Alouette je te plumerai

CeCe holds out the flower when I ask if I may touch it. The flower is shaking and so I am very gentle in my touch. Ohhh, yes, yes, yes! This one is a Tiger Lily. She tells me with another smile, I call it Tiger. They've watched over me since I was a baby.

I gaze down into the flower and greet it by name before I very gently stroke one petal as I saw CeCe do. "Hello Tiger. I am very pleased to meet you."

My new friend does better than just telling me about hopscotch she decides to show me. She grabs a rock and uses it to draw a pattern in the mud of the road. It is a simple pattern of squares. Then she hands me another rock.

I wonder what comes next.Okay, Okay, Okay. So you toss your rock on the squares and whatever one it lands on, you can't touch. Then you hop. One foot for one square, two feet for the two. Okay? You want me to go first? I'll teach you a rhyme to go with it!

Then instructions seem a little vague so I am glad she offered to go first. I nod at the offer and add, "Yes please, it would help me if you went first and showed me what to do and taught me the rhyme." I hold the rock she gave me and smile. This is fun!

She agrees to show me how it's done with a laugh. She tosses the rock up in the air and it comes down on a set of two squares near the end. CeCe stands at the edge of the pattern and turns around to look at me. See. My foot can't land on the square with the rock on it or I lose the game.

I watch as she brings one foot up and then jumps gently into the first square and starts the rhyme. It is a counting rhyme and line seems to go with one of the squares. It seems simple enough but I watch CeCe closely as she jumps from one square to the next all the way to the end and back again.

She smiles at me as she picks her rock up. See, its easy! Your turn! Toss your rock on a square. You don't have to do the rhyme if you don't want,

She makes the sound with her hands again and then shakes the edge of her dress. some mud on it falls off but not all of it.

I heft the rock in my hand and try to decide where I throw it on the pattern. I remember CeCe threw hers in the air so maybe it's like dice, where you are looking for a less than certain result. you can hope for a particular face to show up but you shouldn't be able to know for sure.

So I toss my rock in the air and it comes down on the line between the last square and the half circle at the top. It is more in the circle part than on the line but still, I bite my lip and look at my friend to see if this changes anything about the instructions she gave me.

I am worried about CeCe's reaction to what just happened and she does look a little anxious as she studies the pattern in front of us and then me. Finally she steps back and tells me, It fell on the line so you can't touch the square or the circle. You have to jump over them. But you can do it!

I take in a breath and start the rhyme as I jump into the first square, I follow the pattern until I get up to the last square and jump over both it and the circle. And then it's the same on the way back. I'm smiling as I hold up my rock. CeCe's right, this is easy!

CeCe is excited that I did it. Even though it was easy. As she says. I smile back at her as she bounces around smacking her hands together. She asks for her flower back and I hand it over carefully.

I have to go, She tells me, looking a bit sad and then leaning closer her voice gets quiet, I snuck out and I have to get home before Daddy does. I think this may count as a confession. Where do you live? We can play again! I hesitate before I give her any answer to her question, Maryk will be unhappy if I let anyone know where our house is. So I point in the general direction and say, "My house is over that way." I smile as she looks happy again at the idea of playing with me. It was fun and I'd like to do it again. As well as learn more songs, or another game.

"I would like to play with you again, CeCe. I hope to see you again soon."
