Tess hugs me and I feel my smile come up at that, and then she says she missed me and I blush, I know it, but I'm not embarrassed, exactly.

"I missed you too," I say, and I go inside with her. "I baked bread," I say. "It's not as good as Edmund's, but... There's something good about baking bread. It feels, I don't know, wholesome." I laugh a little self consciously. "How are you? I'm sorry I haven't seen you these past few days. Things have been - odd."
