Time: 6 p.m., Friday, August 7th
It's wonderful to be able to see the moon without having to walk from under the trees--I can just look outside of my window. But it's a clear night tonight with a slight breeze, so I sit outside of the shop with a bit of silver wire in my hand and some small stones in my lap, letting my hands do as they pleased with the materials.
It's not yet night, but the full moon is already glorious in the sky, and the stars won't be long to follow, I'm sure--hopefully there aren't any customers tonight. Hmm..should definitely look into changing the business times to end at six after all. I'm not sure if there's a regular enough flow of business at night here to justify that tax they charge for after-6 hours. Besides, it would give more more time to relax or work on my wirework.
How much would star-shaped beads cost? I must make sure to visit Kate soon.
Ah, the moonflowers are beginning to open! Their scent gently fills the air around me, and I make a note to open all of the windows tonight. They're gorgeous and subtle, but there are an awful lot of them growing.

Date: 2008-10-28 12:23 am (UTC)"Hello there," I greet, though it's silly for me to do so. Even I know that animals didn't talk. I could resist though, not when he was looking so intelligently at me.

Date: 2008-10-28 01:04 am (UTC)What was probably stranger to me was that the talking feline had the same sort of eyes I did.
"It is a lovely night," I agree. I offer him the bit of wire I'd been twisting--that was what he came for, wasn't it? "Why else would we be out?"

Date: 2008-10-28 01:25 am (UTC)I catch her eyes with mine an then freeze in surprise. Her eyes. Green an blue, jus like mine. She offers me the shiny wire, I sniff it and the fingers holdin it. No fancy Power boilin' off 'er. A hint o somethin tho , something green. I look up again.
"Lots a reasons folks might be out and about but jus cuz is a damn good one. M' name's Chester. What's yers?"

Date: 2008-10-28 01:38 am (UTC)M' name's Chester. What's yers?"
"I'm Nohte," I smile, curious. "This sounds silly...but may I pet you?" I'm not sure how talking animals took to being pet, so better to ask than not to.

Date: 2008-10-28 01:55 am (UTC)Ooh! nice'n polite she is. Asks insteada just reachin fer me. I smile an stretch up my paws onto her. "Sure ya can, Girlie. M' glad ya asked." her hand reaches down to start pettin' me. "So what's a nice girl like you doin' in a crazy place like Excolo?"

Date: 2008-10-28 02:06 am (UTC)"Looking for some craziness," I chuckle, thinking about my plants. I was worried after coming here, that maybe the magic that made the greenery come to life had just trailed here, but after seeing Chester and hearing his question, it reassured me. "Actually, you maybe be the most peculiar creature I've seen here, Chester, and so far it's been pleasant meeting you."

Date: 2008-10-28 02:23 am (UTC)Aww, nuts. Now I gotta warn her about the gods-in-flesh. Cuz they ain't anywhere near as nice as I am. Not that I can't be nasty I gotta, just that they're nasty on principle.
I open my right eye an look up at 'er. "Girlie, I may be the most peculiar thing in town, but some a the weird shit is dangerous. Be careful when the sun goes down. Town get's dangerous when it's dark."

Date: 2008-10-28 03:01 am (UTC)Be careful when the sun goes down. Town get's dangerous when it's dark." What reason had I to mistrust him? And it's rare that someone out to cause you harm would warn you that it's dangerous.
"I'll keep that in mind," I reply. "Thank you...I guess I've been lucky these few weeks. But Chester, if I were to be out in the dark, would there be somewhere safe to run to?" I ask practically. It would seem that something that dangerous wouldn't be deterred by a wooden door. I had my plants, but who's to say they'd b on my side, or would be able to do me any good?

Date: 2008-10-28 03:31 am (UTC)My ears swivel round once as I consider what answer to give. "Either the church or the Tavern would be my guess as to places ta go fer sanctuary. and of course the sheriff's."
no subject
Date: 2008-10-28 03:42 am (UTC)"I hope you're not misleading me, Chester," I jest lightly. "I've just made my emergency plans based on what you've told me. So, how long have you been in Excolo? You seem to be up-to-date with everything."
no subject
Date: 2008-10-28 03:51 am (UTC)I look up at her and nudge her hand with my nose. "Would I lie to you? with this face?" I give her my best innocent eyes. "how long I been in town? Awhile. Long 'nough to hear of some bad shit goin' down. mostly near Silk road but a couple times it's been real close to here."
no subject
Date: 2008-10-28 03:56 am (UTC)"My first instinct is to say 'no', but you said yourself that it's a strange town," I remind. I felt safe enough around the adorable Chester though--otherwise I wouldn't be sitting here petting him.
but a couple times it's been real close to here."
"I'll stay out of alleys and close to one of the places you mentioned," I promised. "I can't go too far at night anyway--the plants fret."
no subject
Date: 2008-10-28 03:10 pm (UTC)She promises to be careful and stay out alleys an such. But then she says somethin' that makes my ears perk up. Plants fretting? What's that about? I just gotta ask.
"your plants fret? What are they, codependent children? And how d'you know? not a lot of body language on a plant. Least not in my experience."
no subject
Date: 2008-10-28 05:24 pm (UTC)That's what I'd thought until I came here, but Excolo's strange seeds spread far this time. No harm in telling Chester, was there? I was out here to sell the oddities anyway, so might as well start letting it be known. "Codependent? I suppose they'd do fine without me, but they seem to like me," I shrug. "Not all of them are expressive--maybe only a third, and those are divided between those that can move and those that can speak," I explain. I know I sound a bit peevish when I say, "They bring me all the way into town so we can see new things, then they turn around and complain when I go off to do just that!"

Date: 2008-10-28 08:04 pm (UTC)"Sounds a bit codependent to me. did they wanna see stuff or just a wider variety of hands to tend them?"
no subject
Date: 2008-10-28 08:14 pm (UTC)"All they told me was they wanted to see more," I reply, "But I can never be sure what they're thinking or if they really do. As far as more hands, I am selling off some of them as part of stock, and I haven't heard any complaints yet."
no subject
Date: 2008-10-29 12:45 am (UTC)"Uh, you sure that's a good idea?" i ask in between licks.
no subject
Date: 2008-10-29 12:52 am (UTC)"Why not, Chester? And it's not as though they'll be in the front window," I replied, considering. No, not just any person would be able to understand, just like not everyone would understand a talking cat. "It has to be the right person, just like every person has their perfect flower and animal. For some people, theirs is just a little more exotic."
no subject
Date: 2008-10-29 01:11 am (UTC)"maybe," I allow. "But how well d'ypou know what these plants really are? Where did they come from?"
no subject
Date: 2008-10-29 03:03 am (UTC)"I have no way of knowing they aren't dangerous," I'm willing to concede. "But they haven't done any harm yet; most of them are like birds: they learn a few phrases, and that's the end of it."
no subject
Date: 2008-10-29 03:08 am (UTC)"hunh." I say with a dismissive flick of my tail. "Guess i'll just hafta drop inta your shop at some point just ta make sure they're okay. you mind?"
no subject
Date: 2008-10-29 03:12 am (UTC)I shake my head. "Of course not, Chester. Maybe your handsome coat will draw more customers when you come," I smile a bit.
no subject
Date: 2008-10-29 06:08 pm (UTC)She shakes her head, smiles an compliments me. I draw my ears upright and let my tail curl up just a bit. "Nice a yah to say so, Girlie." I tip one ear down at her in a kinda salute. "Been nice meetin' yah, miss Nohte. i'll see yah around." and with a final sniff at her hand and a flick of my tail, I head on down the road.

Date: 2008-10-29 07:35 pm (UTC)"Good-night, Chester," I reply, watching as he gives a final sniff before heading off. It's finally night now, and I could see people coming out of their homes, heading towards Silk Road. Dangerous at night, huh? I'll head in for tonight and finish my playing inside.
