He shows teeth like a fish, but it is not enough to be like a fish. You have to be drawn from the sea, you have to make wrists ache and the salt cut lines into tired hands. "I would watch what you wish for, you may just get it."
"You don't say," I say politely. "Well, when I get what I wish for, I may permit you to see it." Although I have masks for such things, frankly, and I do not think I will show a sharp-toothed man my face simply because he would watch it.
""Know much of fishing, do you?" the woman says, and I dip my head a little to one side, lift one hand. "I have had to learn, madam. I need to earn my wishes, after all."
"We can cast a net together. Though I think this sea is more full of serpents than fish, mayhap one can help you."
"Maybe that one can," I say, smiling. "They are not so different, sometimes. Both are scaled and both can speak, and neither ever blink. I imagine they see many things." I look towards the sea (http://community.livejournal.com/estdeus_innobis/405311.html?#t10236735), and I see a ragged shape dragging itself onto the sand, and I blink and then add "Excuse me a moment," and step down towards the shore. If nothing else I would see to it that he does not drown--the waves might yet pull him back.
