"My feet?" she says as if it had never occured to her. "There is something wrong with my feet?"
"Oh, no no no," I say hastily, although I am beginning to get the strangest impression that there might be something odd about her hands, though I can't place it. But at least she is not suddenly displaying teeth and claws and a frankly sadistic humour, and I am a little reassured. "It is only that they are not well-suited for running. And there are things here that-- this forest seems to harbour a few quite unpleasant creatures," I add. And then a young woman's voice calls out to us, and I find myself turning towards the sound quite quickly, my heart racing again.
It is a young couple, and I have the oddest feeling that I recognize her, if not him--although something about her seems off-kilter. In the back of my mind I am wishing more than ever to have my hand healed, and I smile politely and straighten. "Good day, lady, gentleman," I say. "Pardon my asking, but do you know each other?"
After all, there was only one wolf. If they have been travelling together, I suppose there is a better chance that it isn't either of them.
