I know my letters.

[Early afternoon of Monday, January 11 (day 225)]
[The Library]
I got a spare hour, now. Always meant ta see if I could fall asleep an' dream, ever since I heard 'bout the red an' blue, but I've bin meanin' ta visit the Library as well an' I guess I can sleep at night instead. Seems better somehow.
Take my hat off as I go inside, and dip my head ta Miss Lydia, waitin' a second ta be polite afore I carry on. Ain't never bin particularly good with books, an' I know it. I mean, I c'n read--be a bit odd if I couldn't, given how I was made an' who raised me an' how laws an' books are all set down, an' town names an' mottoes like sticks inside holdin' up the straw--but I'm gener'ly better with people.
Still I hate ta bother people who've already got things on their minds, an' I guess I can at least learn 'nough to ask the right questions. Know some ladies from town come by here Monday nights, but I guess none of'm are in yet. An' Hermia's gone to lunch.
End up findin' a book on churches, an' sit down at one of the tables with my hat beside me an' start readin'. Think maybe it might help some, or be a start.
