Riverside
That's a fine day we come on to Excolo, stiff breeze and none too chill. We let the young'un from New Canaan off of the boat further up: rare handsome female as gave us a boy's name. Wouldn't be the first dussen't travel less'n its as male, not in these times. Never did let on as I'd seen through her, as it don't seem mannerly.
Both quiet'ns, her 'n that other. That one come alonger us a whiles ago, but she ent hampered us any. Jes keeps her mask on her an keeps outer the way, an that's fine all round.
As we tie up in town I can hear our Cecy telling off Willum again: "Stop your nonnicking, boy, and mow in!" Never did know such a fumble-fisted lad, so much it's right hard to believe he come outer my blood. Number of times I had to catch him a ding round the ear this turn up and down the river's not to be counted. He spent the first days hullin' up ower the side, too. Lookit him now, garpin' about insteader managing Jenny, and near to blunderin' over as we put in.
Don't greatly wonder that he's staring about, mind. I remember Excolo when that was nothing but a hoddy-doddy little town, and now she's all up and down with shops and fancy folk. All to the good of us, I thinks to myself. We brung plenty along, and there's always fair fancy goods to pick up with a bit of wranglin'. And I got a few odd sorts for the less reg'lar trade, too. I been thinkin' maybe it's time to see if that dozy Willum can show himself any better at the hagglin' than the sailin', but I been hearin' all manner of talk about this town in the last weeks. Think it's maybe time for us to tread a little careful when we walks ashore.
