We cannot let ourselves get frozen into regarding everyone we do not know as an absolute stranger.
[Early afternoon of Monday, May 3 (day 337)]
[The General Store]
Don't have much t'say to Amanda, but I don't mind listening. She's been on about her mother spending time with someone, talking in circles 'round it. Wouldn't take it for anything save she's not usually so on about the matter. She set it aside when folk were in store, though, and with the new cloth came in over the weekend, that's often enough.
She's stepped out, though taking her for back soon; it's only that Jenna's done her time at the Apothecary and came by, and the two went out t'speak and'm guessing maybe to go by the Cockaigne. Ought not be overlong; light as Amanda seems sometimes, she's working sound and I trust she'll be back.
Quiet for a moment, and I take up a dustcloth. The store's clean, but there's dust of threads on the counter, and could do worse than tidy up while I've a moment.
[Open to Lannie]

"You staying there now, then? And yes, and his spices are a joke,"
I nod. "For now." Not gonna lie to Glass and there's nothing to lie about. "Ohhh RIGHT! Spices!" I hadn't thought about those. "So, besides a riot, anything else happen while I was away?" Better to ask than go, 'So I heard someone got killed'....

"Mhm." Think a moment. "Everyone fell asleep for three days and dreamt a nightmare together, 're you here for that?" And I died, but that seems a strange thing to say. Simon knows it, and Kate, but can't speak to who else might've seen and so hold off on the words. "Some tangle of a thing taking after Nanshe. Only Mrs. Connolly dead of it, though. And Derek Granger cut to pieces. And Hermia and Valmont wed, a month back now. That said, Lannie, riot was a month before last I saw of you." Offer her a thin smile. "Aught you care to be telling me?"

That said, Lannie, riot was a month before last I saw of you. Aught you care to be telling me?"
"I needed to get away," I shrug, "So I left." I try to keep it light and easy going. Was it so long ago? Between being a wolf and then a prisoner, I lost track of time. "Happy to be back, but it didn't feel that long," I explain. "Heard about Derek too, gonna offer Mab my help."
Just the thought of it all and this town makes me wonder if Benedict is really dead. I shudder just thinking about it.

"Which didn't?" I say dry, taking a step back and measuring the distance between us, height of the counter and my reach and the weight of the scales. Last time someone missing quite so much of sense and sequence came in t'store where I tended counter, I near had my brains beat out. Last time was enough, and her not looking near as stunned as Dorian gives me no ease. "The twomonth since you left, or the threemonth since the riot that happened after you left?" Not like to be the mockingbird bitch, I'm thinking, not so simple a mistake, but what the hell...?

I'm not gonna hurt you, Glass. After seeing what I did to Verdi, I can't say I blame her questioning that, though.
"The twomonth since you left, or the threemonth since the riot that happened after you left?"
It takes me a minute to catch on to what she's saying.
"OH," I say with a smile. Of course I remember some things before I left, which was after the riot. "I meant after I left, after you saw me. Since I've been gone." I hope that makes sense. Guess the wolf thing isn't helping me make much sense either. "The time didn't feel that long, It seems to go by different when I'm not walking on two legs," I explain. She knows, she's seen it. "Or distracted," I add with a shrug.
no subject
"You 'membered the riot, but just forgot you'd been in town for the it, then?" I say dry. "Love to hear what distracted you that much."
no subject
"No, I remembered I was there for it," I say evenly, "Just everything after Verdi is sort of a blur. But its done and I'm back," I shrug.
"Love to hear what distracted you that much."
Look around the room at that question. I'm sure she would like to know. She's never been one to talk about herself much. Always private. "Well," I say slowly, licking my lips, "First off, I get distracted easy when I'm in the other body." I'm still me but everything is so different. That and gotta watch my ass and not get caught. Did a real good job at that. "Went to a couple towns, weird shit there too. Like hangings and burnings," I explain.

"First off, I get distracted easy when I'm in the other body," and I nod absent, thinking of John. "Went to a couple towns, weird shit there too. Like hangings and burnings," and I tilt my head, look to her curious.
"What made them strange?" Know there aren't too many burnings near around, far's folk speak of, but a wolf can go a fair distance in two months. And hanging's... alright, not a given, but pretty sure you could get yourself lynched in Dry Run, you put a little effort into it. Not a friendly place.
