Time has little meaning here, though your body back home may disagree.
Dream.
A forest.
A forest of the oldest sort, thick with brambles, trees snarled with centuries of life. It stretches for miles, many of them very dark, because the trees grow so close that it is hard to see. From a high vantage point, on one of the hills of the forest, one may glimpse a tower at the heart of the forest, a great graceful column of grey stone. Here and there there are clearings, bright with sunlight, and streams running with clear water. But mostly there is dark.
In the distance, the howl of a wolf.

I jump a bit, an' turn to see Edmund standin' there, lookin' like Robin 'Ood.
"Edmund," I say. "What're you doin' 'ere?" Then I realise 'e could ask me the same question. An' I don't even know if 'e's real or if I just made 'im up. Dreams is confusin', but I know enough 'bout Excolo to take 'em seriously. Bad things can 'appen in dreams just as much as in real life. "D'you know where we are?" I say, an' it occurs to me that 'e ain't ever seen me without Faith before, but 'e don't looked shocked. Does 'e even know who I am?

She turns, and I see her face. Sudden realization springs through my mind, and I drop to a knee while doffing my hat.
"Princess, I'm sorry I didn't recognize you. I would not have expected to find you here in the woods, unattended. Please accept my humble apologies, and what service I may offer," with that I rise, since I know that she is a good and kind princess who doesn't stand on ceremony. I set my hat back on my head and step a bit closer to her, "As for where we are, I am mostly sure. This is not a part of the forest I have travelled before," I shrug and try not to look too sheepish as I continue, "I know this might sound a bit odd, but I feel like I'm supposed to be looking for something- something very important. And that something's pulled me to this part of the forest. So I've been wandering, looking for anything out of place."
It is strange though to see her by herself. Usually she and her sister are inseperable- to find one alone is fairly unthinkable. Just that fact tells me that something terrible must have happened, "I hate to be so direct, but why are you out here alone? These woods can be very dangerous to the unwary."

"It's alright, Edmund," I say. "I'm glad to see you." I smile at him.
"I hate to be so direct, but why are you out here alone? These woods can be very dangerous to the unwary."
"I dunno," I admit. "I dunno where my sister is, or how I got here... It's a strange place." I shiver a bit, cos it's getting chilly. "Maybe we should keep walking."

I see that she's getting cold, so I swing my cloak off and put it around her, my hands lingering on her shoulders, "Here, you need this more than I do. You'll freeze out here in that dress, lovely though it is," I know she's stronger than she looks- the life of a princess isn't always an easy one- but I want to take care of her. And it isn't like I could just leave her by herself in the forest.
"Let's walk together. There's some danger here, but its always safer with others."

"The path's uneven," I say, by way of explanation. "Don't want to trip." Smile up at 'im. We walk a bit, an' I'm warmer now I've got 'is cloak. Warmer still with my 'and on 'is arm, if I'm 'onest. "So," I say, after we've walked a little way, "what d'you think this important thing is you're looking for? Can I 'elp?"

-My Princess, smiling up at me, snug in my arms, half her face covered by a mask, lights all around us, a shining dress-
I know there's something about her that I'm forgetting. Something that is important. But I just can't pull it to the front of my mind. I push past it to focus on her question.
"So, what d'you think this important thing is you're looking for? Can I 'elp?"
"I have to be honest- I'm not entirely sure. I think it was a gift that got lost," I shrug, "I'm not even sure who it was for. I just know that its important. And it has to go somewhere special," pat her hand and smile, "We all need a task, right?"

"It's good to keep busy," I agree, and we turn a corner on the path and find a cave (http://community.livejournal.com/estdeus_innobis/405098.html?thread=10260330#t10260330).
