"Always hungry, much like me then!" Tarquin grins, and I laugh. Novice John nods to us as he comes to fetch the bales, and I give Hirondelle's neck a final pat.

"Come on, Tarquin. I'll introduce you to Brother Nanse-Kam, and then we shall go eat." I clap him on the shoulder as we leave the stables, walking out into the cool air of winter. "The food here is very good. If I wasn't working so hard I'd probably have gained thirty pounds by now." I joke. The food IS good here, and I know no one will mind if Tarquin eats as much as he wants. Hopefully he'll stay afterwards...

Brother Nanse-Kam has stayed where he was. I hoped he would. I lead Tarquin up to him and nod, "Good morning, Brother Nanse-Kam. This is Tarquin, he's a friend of mine from town. Tarquin, this is Brother Nanse-Kam, one of the monks of this abbey." I know Brother Nanse-Kam will be kind to Tarquin. He's a very good, gentle man.
